Distributed Function Computation
| Speaker: | Prof Bikash Dey, EE IITB
|
| Seminar Details: | It is often required in a network that a function of
some data distributed over the network be computed in some
terminal nodes. For instance, it may be required in a sensor network
to compute the average or maximum temperature sensed by the sensor
nodes. The problem has been considered in various setups in the past
in different flavors. We will present some fundamental results
for communicating the function `sum' to a set of terminals when
the data at different sources are independent. Later we will
introduce a network flow approach for function computation,
and give linear programming formulations to design schemes
for achieving the maximum rate of computing functions.
We will also present various practical applications where these
techniques may be applied.
