Title:  WLAN Security

Supervisor(s): Prof. U. B. Desai and Prof. S. N. Merchant

Abstract:

Wireless local area networking offers a lot of cost and productivity benefits, leading businesses to invest in WLAN deployment. But as with any networks, wired or wireless, there are numerous security threats associated with WLANs. For wired networks physical connectivity is needed to carry out any attacks and for that, the attacker probably needs to be inside your workspace. But wireless transmission is open to air, and not limited to physical boundaries of your workspace. This raises a lot of concerns over the security of wireless information transfer.

Traditional WLAN security measures include encryption, authentication techniques at the cost of decreased throughput. In this work we focus on physical or radio frequency layer security for WLANs. We develop an  RF layer firewall that minimizes the information leakage outside boundaries of the workspace. One of the advantages of this system is that we do not lose on throughput while increasing security.
