The Joint Telematics Group (JTG), the NCC organizer, comprises of faculty in the area of Telecommunications and Computer Networking at the five Indian Institutes of Technology at Chennai, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Mumbai and the Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore. The group came into existence as a consequence of a Nationally Co-ordinated Telematics Project run at these Institutes under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The JTG decided to organize the annual conference at one of the six Institutes away from the glitters of the five-star culture. The objective/goal was to provide a regular forum for exchange of information on current research and development in the field of telecommunications, signal processing, networking and related areas. It was felt that such an event would provide impetus to workers in the field to further research as well as give directions to R&D activities in the country. The conference would have contributory / invited / keynote lecture presentations as well as tutorials on state-of-art topics. Exposition as well as poster sessions were envisaged. All papers go through a process of review.
The
responsibility of organizing the first National Conference on Communications
was entrusted to the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai. The NCC has
been growing in stature right from the beginning and is today recognized as a
meet nobody would like to miss. The first cycle of conferences is over.
IIT
Bombay is hosting the NCC 2002 on January 25-27, 2002 at the start of the next
cycle.
