Computer Center currently recommends WPS Office/Kingsoft for all the following purposes:
- All documents prepared within IITB that have to be printed.
- All documents prepared within IITB, whose pdf-files have to be mailed.
- All intra IIT documents to be shared in doc/docx/xls/xlsx formats.
- Flash video embedded presentations prepared in MS Office (for teaching, etc).
In case of incompatibility between ppt/docs/etc files saved using WPS Office and MS Office 2016, and in case this situation is unavoidable (for example, due to frequent interaction/sharing of files with MS office users outside the institute), options of MS Office 2016 or google-doc (and export to docx, etc) can be considered.
This is the policy in effect from October 2017 after decision taken by the institute software committee meeting held on 10th October, 2017.
