Having dealt with reading/writing of Hindi literature more, my literary
collection is dominated by Hindi books. Many of them are discrete
collections: like a book on selected poetry by multiple poets, compiled and
edited by someone. The prominent, single-author books are as
following. Thanks to IIT Bombay's wonderful library, I did not require to
purchase even 10% of the literature books that I read.
- Jwalamukhi ke Phool. A single-act play (Ekanki) by Sushil Kumar.
- Karna. A novel by Kedarnath Mishr ‘Prabhat’.
- Isuri Prakash. An 18th century poetry collection of
Poet Isuri in Bundelkhandi dialect, compiled by
Gaurishankar Dwivedi ‘Shankar’.
- Panchtantra ki Kahaniyan. A story collection, known by
word-of-mouth in India, and compiled by Venern Thomas.
- Apni Kahani. An autobiography by Vrindavanlal Verma.
- Aankh ki Kirkiri. A novel by Rabindranath Thakur.
- Nirmala. A novel by my idol, Premchand.
- Bihira Satsai. An epic by 17th century poet
Bihari, edited by Satyadev Chowdhury.
The other interesting books are in English. A list of them is as follows.
- Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. By Robert Pirsig.
- Siddartha. By Hermann Hesse.
- Illusions. By Richard Bach.
- The Curse of Karna. By T.P. Kailasam.
- Shikar. By J. Butt.
- Nine Man-eaters and One Rogue. By Kenneth Anderson.
- The Black Beast of Mussorie. By Hugh Gantzer.
- The Iliad. Epic by Homer.
- Poems. By Thomas Hardy.
- The Alchemist. By Paul Coelho.
- Indian Freedom Struggle. By B. Krishna.
- Footfalls of Indian History. By Sister Nivedita.
