Performance/Compositions
I play guitar and love to hear blues, jazz, classic rock, semi-classical/classical Indian music and fusion.
Kholo Kholo - Tare Zameen Pe
This is a recording of my performance at IIT Kanpur, a beautiful song from a equally good movie. I love the guitar riff used in this song
Jee Le Tu
This is a self composition by me and two of my friends-Athul and Aalap. I played guitar. This small song was composed within 4 hours, on the last day of my stay in bangalore. Recording was done on my laptop.
Ga Ma Pa Dha Pa
Another self composition from Music Club IIT Kanpur. I am on drums (as didn’t get any drummer). I love the vocal harmonies in the song. Sound quality can be poor as we didn’t get studio for recording.
Time signature Exp.
I tried recording the song tears in the heaven in different time signatures, one because for some reason enjoy fitting one song in different time signatures and second, I was interested in analyzing the perceived speed of same song at same tempo in different time signature.
Tears in heaven (4/4)
Tears in heaven (3/4)
Here I tried keeping the number of notes same, sounded like a swing version of the original 4/4 piece.
Tears in heaven (3/4)
In this piece, I added notes so that we get 123 123 kind of feel.
Tears in heaven (7/8)
I have tried fitting the song into roopak taal, 7 beats per cycle with 3+4 sectional structure.
While working on tempo estimation for quite some time, I was intrigued by the complexities of musical structures, especially when it comes to explaining and analyzing them under given framework. One interesting phenomenon was the effect of different metrical structure on perceived speed. While developing Indian music database and annotating tempo value many times I felt its better if I tag and cross check the consistency between perceived speed and BPM value separately for different time signatures.
