Bachelor of Technology, Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, India (2004-08)
CGPA: 8.1/10
Research and Industrial Experience
Research Assistant, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India (March’10-till date)
• Working on rhythm analysis of audio songs with an emphasis on Indian music database, exploring pattern matching and machine learning based approaches for perceived tempo estimation and meter detection.
• Analyzed the effect of knowledge of rhythmic style on perceived tempo estimation, without using the statistical information about the style dependent tempo ranges.
• Developed Rhythm Analysis Toolbox in C to extract numerous rhythmic descriptors and features from an audio signal.
• Implemented and tuned algorithm for extracting signature phrase from a song using Chroma features, to be used by Query-by-Humming system.
Development Engineer, Anveshan Telecom Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, India (Nov’08-Jan’10)
• Designed and developed Speech Enhancement Devices (Noise Reduction, Automatic Level Control, Hybrid and Acoustic Echo Canceller) in C engineered for mobile, VOIP and wire-line networks.
• Developed and implemented Group3 FAX MODEMs and G766 FAX protocol in C for Digital Circuit Multiplexing Equipment. This involved designing robust channel equalizers, timing and carrier recovery modules to withstand high SNR and bad channel conditions.
Engineer, Audio Processing, Ittiam Systems (P) Ltd, Bangalore, India (Jul'08-Nov'08)
• Performed platform specific optimization of Windows Media Audio (WMA) decoder on ARM Cortex A8 processor.
Internship: Audio Processing, Ittiam Systems (P) Ltd, Bangalore, India (May’07-Jul’07)
• Comprehensively studied HE-AAC codec and identified 5 new artifacts introduced by its Spectral Band Replication Technology (SBR). Designed a detection tool for the most frequently occurring artifact
Major Academic Projects
Audio Diarization (B-Tech Project, Guide: Dr. S. Umesh)
• Classification of segments of broadcast news into speech (male/female), music (advertisement) and silence using timbral (MFCC) features and GMM classifier.
Digital Guitar Effects Pedal and Tuner
• Designed real-time Guitar Effects Pedal and Tuner in C, ported on TI-DSK6713 chipset and demonstrated effects like flanger, wah-wah and overdrive effects with low delay.
Fast Global Registration for Panoramic Image Mosaicing
• Implemented Panoramic Image Mosaicing in MATLAB using an accurate projective transform and sequential shortest path search algorithm to compensate for different perspective of the camera.
Practical Low Bit Rate Predictive Image Coder using Multi-rate Processing
• Simulated a modified 2D Differential Pulse Code Modulation codec using multi-rate processing in MATLAB
Digital Audio Effect Box
Implemented elementary audio effects like reverb, echo, equalizer in MATLAB.
Ornithopter-A mechanical bird
• Designed a working model of Ornithopter, using household junk and balsa wood for the frame. The sole source of power for the flight was the stored energy in a twisted rubber band.
