Vineet Gokhale

I obtained a PhD degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai. My thesis was jointly supervised by Prof.Subhasis Chaudhuri and Prof. Jayakrishnan Nair. I work in the area of haptics technology with a primary focus on haptics signal communication over shared networks. I am currently serving as Assistant Professor at the University of South Bohemia, Czech Republic.

Research:

I am currently working on transmitting touch signals over long distances through Haptics over Internet Protocol (HoIP). HoIP is a synchronous multimedia data communication protocol aimed at sharing haptics, auditory, visual and any other multimedia information between remotely connected agents. HoIP is being primarily developed for tele-haptic applications such as tele-surgery, tele-training, tele-operation, haptic based collaborative games, tele-touch therapy and many more applications. HoIP handles adaptive multiplexing of different multimedia information, fragmentation and augmentation of multiplexed data, adaptive packetization of the media payload based on the rapidly varying network characteristics.

Personal Interests:

Traveling and trekking in mountainous terrains feature among my favourite pastimes. I often go on bicycle expeditions in and around Mumbai city. Here is a little glimpse of the serene and elegant mountains i came across during some of my treks. I also enjoy spending time reading novels based on travels, true events, etc. My recent favorites being "Search in Secret India" by Paul Brunton and "Alive" by Pears Paul Read.
