    • The department is actively engaged in research areas ranging from practical implementation to theoretical investigations. Much of this research is funded by national and international funding agencies, both government and corporate. The research is published in leading international journals and conferences.

    • The Electrical Engineering Department is one of the largest departments in the institute and also in the country. Currently there are about 1100 students enrolled in various academic programs, about 200 project employees in various sponsored projects, about 30 technical staff, 30 administrative staff and about 60 faculty members. In addition, many prominent researchers/teachers across the world hold visiting appointments in the department.

      The department, through the Electrical Engineering Students Association EESA, maintains regular contact with its alumni, many of whom are well-known and established in their careers across the world.

    • The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) is one of the major Departments of IIT Bombay since its inception in 1958. The department is very active in teaching and research in the areas of Communications and Signal Processing, Control and Computing, Power Electronics and Power Systems, Microelectronics and VLSI design, and Electronic Systems.

  • Visiting IIT Bombay
    • From the Mumbai Airport
    • Mumbai's airport is called Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA). There are two terminals namely Domestic and International. You can take the following to reach IIT Bombay from the airport: (i) taxi (cab), (ii) prepaid taxi if you wish to absolutely avoid a tout), and (iii) auto-rickshaw. IIT Bombay is situated in a suburb named Powai. The cabs and the auto-rickshaw operate all the time. Taxi or prepaid taxi can be booked at the airport. Auto-rickshaws do not have any booking. All these ply by the meter.
    • From the Railway Station
    • There are five railway stations from which you can take an auto-rickshaw (if available) or a taxi (cab). From far-off stations, there is also local train connectivity; however, they might be exceptionally crowded during office hours. The nearest station to IIT Bombay is Kanjurmarg (West) or Vikhroli (West). From the station, taxi or auto-rickshaws can be hired for IIT Bombay.

      The five railway stations are:
      1. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai (CSTM)
      2. Dadar Terminus
      3. Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Kurla (LTT)
      4. Mumbai Central Terminus (BCT)
      5. Bandra Terminus (BDTS)

      BEST bus from Bandra Terminus to IIT Powai Main Gate: 422
      BEST buses from Andheri (Agarkar Chowk) to IIT Powai Main Gate: 496ltd, 445ltd, 392, 185, 336, AS-522 (air-conditioned)
    • At the IIT Gate
    • You will be required to present an identification document with your photograph (passport / identity card issued by your organization / driving license etc.) at the Main Gate, while entering the campus.

  • Direction to EE Department office
    • From IIT Main Gate
    • Once you have reached the Main Gate of the institute, ensure you collect your visitors pass and declare all electronic belongings on the same. Now, drive/ walk down for approximately 800m, passing Gulmohar building on your left and take a right just before the security kiosk, between the School of Management and the Computer Center Building. Turn left with the road, the buildings on your immediate right are the Electrical Engineering Department. The EE Office is in the Girish Gaitonde Building on the 2nd Floor.
    • From IIT Market Gate
    • From the market gate, aka Y-Point in IIT, come down straight with Kendriya Vidyalaya on your left. Continue following the school boundary till the road junction at Girls Hostel No 10. Turn right and drive/ walk down for about 200m and take a right just before the security kiosk, between the School of Management and the Computer Center Building. Turn left with the road, the buildings on your immediate right are the Electrical Engineering Department. The EE Office is in the Girish Gaitonde Building on the 2nd Floor.
