History
IIT Bombay was established in the year 1957 and the department of Electrical Engineering (EE) has been one of the major departments from the inception of this institute. The department began with fifty undergraduate students, and forty postgraduate students; currently, the department has sixty faculty members, five hundred undergraduate students, and five hundred fifty postgraduate students. Initially the department began with three programs to award degrees, namely Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology, and Doctor of Philosophy. Since 1996, the department also offers a five year dual degree (Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology) in the specializations named Communications and Signal Processing and Microelectronics.
