    • The department is actively engaged in research areas ranging from practical implementation to theoretical investigations. Much of this research is funded by national and international funding agencies, both government and corporate. The research is published in leading international journals and conferences.

    • The Electrical Engineering Department is one of the largest departments in the institute and also in the country. Currently there are about 1100 students enrolled in various academic programs, about 200 project employees in various sponsored projects, about 30 technical staff, 30 administrative staff and about 60 faculty members. In addition, many prominent researchers/teachers across the world hold visiting appointments in the department.

      The department, through the Electrical Engineering Students Association EESA, maintains regular contact with its alumni, many of whom are well-known and established in their careers across the world.

    • The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) is one of the major Departments of IIT Bombay since its inception in 1958. The department is very active in teaching and research in the areas of Communications and Signal Processing, Control and Computing, Power Electronics and Power Systems, Microelectronics and VLSI design, and Electronic Systems.

Admissions


  • The department is at the forefront of the academics, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of the students and faculty members. It offers various programmes to the aspiring students.
  • We encourage Masters and Bachelors students to apply for PhD and M.Tech programs at our department which is among the top 100 as per QS World Rankings.
      • Admissions to BTech in EE and Dual Degree programmes with specialization in Communications and Signal Processing (CSP) and Microelectronics are carried out at the institute level jointly with all the IITs through nationwide common entrance test called the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).       • Admissions to MTech programmes with two year duration are usually performed in April-May months of every year. Details about eligibility criteria with regards to academic qualifications, experience, application forms and online application procedure, selection procedures etc are advertized here. Admissions to MTech programmes with three year duration, MTech programmes with RA positions are usually performed in June-July months of every year. More details about eligibility criteria with regards to academic qualification, experience, application forms, selection procedures etc are advertized here.

        If you are interested in admissions to MTech as Teaching Assistant (TA/TAP) or as Research Assistant (RA) or as Project Staff (PS) already working in IIT Bombay, you are strongly encouraged to appear in GATE. More information about GATE including procedures for appearing in GATE can be found here.

        Admissions to PhD programmes are conducted twice in a year once in April-May time frame and another in December month of the year. Usually, persons holding Masters Degree in engineering and technology are encouraged to apply for PhD. Persons with Bachelors degree in engineering and technology or Masters in science (subject to some restrictions as prescribed) with exceptional academic records may also be considered for admissions.         EE department has an ambitious plan of increasing both the quality and quantity of PhD level research. If you are interested in doing cutting edge research in any area of electrical engineering and have outstanding academic record, do write to Head of the Department (head@ee.iitb.ac.in) or any other faculty member with matching research interests about your interest to join the PhD programme of our department.
