Faculty members of EE, IITB are recipients of many distinguished awards such as Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, Prof. K. Sreenivasan Memorial Award, Prof. SVC Aiya Memorial Award, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Research Award, Ram Lal Wadhwa Award, INAE Young Engineer Award, Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and many others. Many faculty members are Editors of IEEE and other national and international journals. They are also Fellows of organizations like IEEE, IETE, INAE, IASc, NASI and INSA.   • Prof. Abhay Karandikar received the in 2017, 1st prize in Mozilla's Innovation Challenge for the Project "Gram Marg Solution for Rural Broadband"..

  • Best Poster award at the Quantum Effects in Biological Systems, Jerusalem, Israel in 2017.

    Ashlesha Patil presented a novel semiconductor device idea for electronic nose (gas sensing) applications which was inspired by what we understand of natural olfaction.



  • Prof. Valipe Ramgopal Rao received the Prof. C.N.R. Rao Bangalore INDIA NANO Science Award in 2016, India.

  • Prof. Abhay Karandikar received the IEEE-SA Standards Medallion for accomplishments that have resulted in revolutionary changes to Indian Technology, Policy and Standardization in 2016, IEEE Standards Associatoin.

  • Prof. Subhananda Chakrabarti received the NASI-Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award in 2016, NASI Council.

  • Prof. Baylon G. Fernandes (Currently, Head of the Department) received the 2016 IET Premium (Best Paper) Award in 2016, IET Electric Power Application.

  • Young Scientist Award and Finalist for Student Paper Competition at URSI. in 2015, URSI Atlantic Radio Science Conferences (AT-RASC), Gran Canaria, Spain.

    Pragati Patel is a Ph.D student of EE department under Prof. Jayanta Mukherjee and working on "Wideband Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antennas". Recently, she has received "Young Scientist Award" for my paper "Novel S Shaped Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Wireless Communication" at Atlantic Radio Science Conference (URSI AT-RASC 2015) which is going to held in Gran Canaria, Spain, from 18-22 May 2015. The Young Scientist Awards are presented at the General Assemblies of URSI and at the URSI Atlantic Radio Science Conferences (AT-RASC) to recognize an international group of individuals who have made innovative contributions and discoveries in multidiscipline research related to electromagnetic fields and waves in Gran Canaria, Spain.   • Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Prof. Animesh Kumar received the Finalist for the Best Paper award in NCC in 2014, National Conference on Communications (NCC), IIT Kanpur.


  • Prof. Maryam Shojaei Baghini received the Richard Feynman Prize in 2014, ICE (Institute of Civil Engineers), UK.

    The best paper published in ICE Journal of Emerging Materials Research in 2013.



  • CST University Publication Award 2014 in 2014, CST microwave studio.

    Anil Kamma has received award for “Multi-Band Notch UWB Band Pass Filter with Novel Contiguous Split Rings Embedded in Symmetrically Tapered Elliptic Rings.” A. Kamma, S. R. Gupta, G. S. Reddy, and J. Mukherjee Progress In Electromagnetics Research C, Vol. 39, 133-148, 2013. Prize consists of a one year free upgrade of the existing CST software license.



  • Prof. Shreevardhan A. Soman received the Award for best paper in Power Systems in 2014, 18th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC), Guwahati.

  • Prof. Valipe Ramgopal Rao received the Infosys Science Foundation Award 2013 in 2013-11-12, Infosys, India.

    The Infosys Science Foundation today announced the winners of the Infosys Prize 2013 across six categories: Engineering & Computer Science , Humanities, Life Sciences , Mathematic al Sciences , Physical Sciences and Social Sciences . The winners were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contribution s to scien tific research . T he Infosys Science Foundation also announced an increase in the prize purse by Rs . 5 Lakhs to Rs. 55 Lakhs for each category for 2013 . The prize for the Humanities category will be split equally between the two winners. The seven winners were chosen based on significant progress showcased in their chosen spheres , as well as for the impact thei r research will have on the specific field . In addition to the prize purse, each category award includes a gold medallio n and a citation certif icate . The winners of the Infosys Prize 2013 were evaluated by a panel of jurors comprising eminent scientists and professors from around the world. The jury chairs of the six categories are: Prof. Pradeep K. Khosla , Engineering & Computer Science; Prof. Amartya Sen , Humanities; Dr. Inder Verma , Life Sciences ; Prof. Srinivasa S. R. Varadhan , Mathematical Sciences; Prof. Shrinivas Kulkarni , Physical Sciences; and Dr. Kaushik Basu , Social Sciences.



  • Prof. Maryam Shojaei Baghini received the First place award in the Design Contest in 2013, International Conference on VLSI Design, India.

    Priyanka Kabara (Final year M.Tech. student), Sanket Takor (intern) and Prof. Maryam Shojaei won the firs place award in the Design Contest, organized as a part of International Conference on VLSI Design, India, 2013. They also won the firs place award in Cadence Design Contest India, 2012. They also were one of finalist teams in Student Project Contest in International Conference on VLSI Design 2012, India.



  • Prof. Valipe Ramgopal Rao received the ISA Technovation Award for Most Promising Startup 2012 in 2013, India Semiconductor Association (ISA).

    NanoSniff Technologies Pvt. Ltd. has won the prestigious ISA Technovation - Most Promising Startup Company Award - 2012 by the Indian Semiconductor Association. The company is founded by Prof. V.Ramgopal Rao (EE) and Prof. Soumyo Mukherji (DBSE) out of the work carried out in the Centre of Excellence in Nanoelectronics, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay.



  • Life Time Achievement Award, International Conference on VLSI Design in 2013, VLSI Society of India.

    Prof A.N. Chandorkar was conferred the "Life Time Achievement Award" in the recently held "International conference on VLSI Design 2013" for his contributions to VLSI Field and Education in India. The conference is rated fourth (4th) in the world of VLSI Design area. This conference is organised by VLSI Society of India which represents VLSI Community of India and abroad.



  • Prof. Valipe Ramgopal Rao received the Rakesh Mathur Awards for Excellence in Research 2012 in 2013, IIT Bombay.


  • Prof. Juzer M. Vasi received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, IIT Bombay.

    The Lifetime Achievement Award, instituted by the Senate of IIT Bombay, is meant to recognize sustained and outstanding contributions across a broad spectrum of activities (such as teaching, research, Institution building, etc,) by a faculty member who is close to retirement (superannuating before the Foundation day for the year) or who has just retired (usually, up to two years earlier).



  • Prof. Souvik Mahapatra received the IBM Faculty Award in 2013, IBM.

    The award has been given to recognize contribution in the area of CMOS device reliability and to foster collaboration in this area.



  • Prof. Abhay Karandikar received the VASVIK Industrial Research Award for Electrical and Electronics Sciences and Technology in 2013, Vividhlaxi Audyogik Samshodhan Vikas Kendra (VASVIK) , Mumbai.


  • Prof. Udayan Ganguly, Prof. Saurabh Lodha received the Best paper award at IEEE Indicon in 2013, IEEE.
