In this talk, I will discuss the theme, motivation, and objectives of the FOPD group along with opportunities for masters and PhD students. This group aims to develop (1) Next generation fiber lasers for material processing in manufacturing industry, to tame lightning, and clearing debris in space; (2) Broadband supercontinuum light sources for spectroscopy and imaging; (3) Specialty fibers and amplifiers for optical communication, and (4) Waveguide based single photon sources for quantum computing with an interdisciplinary approach along with a special focus on technology transformation.
Deepak Jain is an upcoming assistant professor at the electrical engineering department of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Prior to this, he was a “University Research Fellow” at the Sydney University and Hans Christian Oersted and Marie-Curie Research Fellow at Technical University of Denmark. He obtained his PhD from Optoelectronics Research Center, University of Southampton, UK and MTech from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His area of interest revolves around "light and its applications" and technology transformation. He is a co-founder of "SOFD" a Sydney based fiber company and was early co-founder of NORBLIS, a Danish broadband laser company. He has more than 60 publications including 23 journal publications and several invited conference papers. He is serving as a chair of OSA’s Optical Fiber Modelling and Fabrication group and an OSA Ambassador for 2020 and a senior member of OSA and IEEE.
