The talk will focus on ABB products and global technology pertaining to small distribution as well as large power transformers. The talk will also highlight corporate research functions and how ABB collaborates with academia.
Dr. Parag Upadhyay is Senior Member of IEEE and working as Senior R&D Scientist at US Corporate Research Center of ABB located at Raleigh, NC, USA. He is specialized in strategic technology planning, technology assessments and R&D, project management and leadership in the area of static and rotating electrical machines, drives and electromagnetic devices. Dr. Upadhyay has significant work experience over 20 years and R&D professional track record on developing novel axial and radial flux permanent magnet motor technologies, identifying and mitigating the engineering challenges to bring it to higher technology readiness levels (TRL) during conduction of some versatile TD projects like: Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB), Sub-assembly magnetization of magnets, novel PM motor technology for low speed high torque applications and special distribution transformers. Dr. Upadhyay did his M. Tech and PhD from IIT Delhi on research area PM motors. He received Prof. A. K. Sinha Award at IIT Delhi and National best master's thesis award for his research on axial flux PM machine. He also work as Postdoctoral Associate with Prof. Ned Mohan at University of Minnesota. He was Professor at Nirma University for 12 years, and worked as assistant professor at SUNY Maritime College before joining ABB. Professionally, he is life member of ISTE and reviewed several conference and journal publications and chaired conference sessions. At ABB, Dr. Upadhyay is involved in key support for the industry-university and corporate research collaborations at US CRC electromagnetics area.
