class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>Dual Degree Thesis:<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dual Degree Students are encouraged to approach faculty members in their specialization for discussing potential thesis research topics. Before commencing on the thesis, the students are required to take a project course called Supervised Research Exposition (SRE) before their ninth semester, usually under the faculty who will also advise them on their master\u2019s thesis.\u00a0 One year of thesis work (in ninth and tenth semesters) is required for a successful completion of the Master\u2019s degree. The thesis must lead to work of publishable, patentable, or deployable quality. Some guidelines about the thesis are given <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iitb.ac.in\/newacadhome\/rules\/Dissertation17june09-10.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><\/p><p><b>Guidance and support:<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are advised by a faculty advisor for their specialization and year of admission (FacAd). For the Dual Degree students during the thesis research, the thesis advisor (supervisor) is the main counsel. Additionally, students can approach DUGC and other bodies for special cases of support needed<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, such as those depicted <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/smp.gymkhana.iitb.ac.in\/campus_life.html#support-available\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Students lagging in academic performance must seek counsel from their faculty advisors, and are encouraged to opt for reduced coursework as described in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iitb.ac.in\/newacadhome\/ugrulebook.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rule book<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Students who are unable to complete the required courses in time can opt to catch up by enrolling in summer courses. They must let the department office know of their requested courses well in advance before the summer vacation starts. Students must note that the department may not always be able to find a willing faculty member to teach the requested course over the summer vacation.<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><b>Internships and placements:<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dual Degree students who are not pursuing summer courses can opt for summer internships during the first three summer vacations of their curriculum. Most students find internships on their own. Dual Degree students must not seek summer internships after their fourth year, as that is the time to get some serious work done on their theses.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students usually participate in job placement activities organized by IITB towards the end of their second-last semester.
