  PATENTS
  1. The commonly used Converter for Battery charging and High Voltage DC supplies is the one, which uses a SCR Controlled Bridge. The main Disadvantage of this configuration is the poor Power Factor. In the patient this is overcome by introducing another SCR and triggering it suitably. With this arrangement PF is achieved to 0.9 at full load.
  2. A SCR Controlled Bridge Converter has a lower Power Factor under the ratio of the DC voltage to the input AC voltage is low. In the patient this is overcome by triggering the SCR at high frequency and using a novel method to OFF the SCR such that the input current waveform is near to sinusoidal and the PF over the whole range of operation reaches to 0.9
  3. The forward Converter has the disadvantage of discontinuous supply current when the reflected DC voltage exceeds the instantaneous AC voltage. The fly back Converter has the disadvantage of high peak current in the switching Device. These are overcome by combining above configuration and opening the scheme using a new control strategy. The result is that high PF (>0.95) and low input current harmonics (< 5%) is achieved.
