There was an update about the approval of the proposal for an annual grant to take care of vaccination and sterilization expenses. The proposal has been approved by the director on a trial basis for a year or two.
Some plans to spend the money are as below.
- An idea was proposed towards establishing a neutering and vaccinating center here at IITB, to essentially have a space with adequate facilities (doctor's room and cages to keep the dogs for a few days after neutering). On of the vets (Sumant's contact) has agreed to do the surgeries for free once such a facility becomes available
- Group brainstormed in possible location of such facilities. An unoccupied cow shelter at the end of lake side have been identified for the time being. A survey of the place is required to check the viability.
- A steel fabricator from the Civil Department will be contacted regarding fabrication of the steel cages. Any ideas from anyone of our group regarding the layout etc is welcome.
- Group also decided that while this facility is being built we should be actively continuing the spaying/neutering through outside agencies such as IDA to highlight activities and show progress to the Dean's office
- There were discussions towards setting up a committee responsible for handling grievances of campus residents having any issues with animals and usually complaining to the PHO. The PHO office and Security office will be advised accordingly to forward the complaints to us for handling.
The meeting concluded around 7:00 pm.
