Bash scripting skills are very valuable: both for your own usage on your PC (nowadays, Windows too has bash) and also for cloud-server usage (which are typically on linux variants). No matter which linux variant, bash is certainly going to be there.
Most common usage skills: pipe (|), grep, cut, paste, csv-file handling, bash-script, for-loops
Some resource materials:
- Slides of a recent workshop in EE, IITB (covering commonly used commands)
- Excellent resource for bash: click here
- Spoken-tutorials on bash: please visit http://spoken-tutorial.org
- Bash-Cheatsheet (thanks to Srikant)
Note (for bash workshops we conduct):
- Installation help will not be provided in the workshop.
- Linux already has "terminal". bash is the usual shell in the terminal.
- For windows users, please install either bash or cygwin before you come for the workshop.
- There is a 'virtual-machine' into which one can boot using a USB-drive. I don't know further details.
Problem sheet workshop participant will be able to answer the questions by at the end of the workshop.
Any prerequisites?: this is a beginner's level workshop. All are welcome.
Please bring your own laptop: fully charged. Sharing a laptop with a friend is welcome too. We will organize a separate workshop soon in a computer-lab to address those without laptops (and those who miss this workshop).
