Development Boards

Starting from 2010, several educational boards have been developed in the Wadhwani lab to assist in teaching courses based on programmable logic devices and microcontrollers. Several workshops have been conducted at IITB as well as other engineering colleges to give the participants hands-on training on using these boards in lab courses and projects. Several engineering colleges have enthusiastically adopted the boards (provided to them free of charge by the Wadhwani lab and sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development through the "Virtual Labs" project) for their lab courses. Some of the colleges have also designed their own daughter boards to go with the development boards.

The following boards have been developed to date.

    CPLD board: "Helium"
    Features:
  • Altera MAX3000 CPLD EPM3064 (64 Macro cells, 1250 gates)
  • Programming through USB port
  • Fully USB powered if no external hardware interface
  • Onboard clock of 1Hz, external clock can be given if necessary
  • 8 onboard inputs and 8 onboard outputs
  • All I/O pins are protected from accidental damage
    CPLD board: "Krypton"
    Features:
  • Based on Altera MAX V architecture.
  • Device used on board: 5M1270 (1270 logic elements).
  • Powered and Programmed through USB. It can also be powered externally.
  • 8 inputs switches and 8 outputs leds onboard.
  • 88 user configurable I/O pins for interfacing to external circuitry.
  • Onboard clock of 1Hz and 24 MHz and External clock input.
  • 4 push buttons with hardware de-bounce.
    Microcontroller board: "Aurum"
    Features:
  • based on PIC18F4550
  • designed for EE undergraduate students
  • easy to use, USB powered and programmed
  • programming protocol is free (uses Microchip Technology tools)
    1.Pt-51: AT89c5131 based boards
    Features:
  • based on Atmel AT89C5131
  • excellent for teaching 8051 architecture
  • USB powered
  • uses Atmel Flip programmer and Keil uVision4
