About IIT Bombay IIT Bombay was set up by an Act of Parliament and established in 1958. It si located at Powai, a suburb of Mumbai. The institute is located on a sprawling 500 acres with plenty of green cover. It is endowed with scenic beauty and picturesque landscape complete with hills and the Powai lake and Vihar lake. The campus is connected to the city proper, an hour's distance through buses and local trains. The international airport is about 7 kms and domestic airport is 10 kms far from the institute. Today the institute is recognized as one of the centers of academic excellence in the country.Over the years, there has been dynamic progress at IIT Bombay in all academic and research activities, and a parallel improvement in facilities and infrastructure, to keep it on par with the best institutions in the world IIT Bombay is celebrating its Golden Jubliee in 2008.
