The Field Computation
Laboratory was established in the year 2005 in the Electrical Engineering
Department of IIT Bombay. It is intended for academic and research purpose.
The lab has state-of-art computation facility for Finite Element (FE)
solutions, which involve simulation and design optimization of electrical machines.
Two- and three-dimentional FE codes are developed in basic computing languages
such as C, C++ as well as in advance languages such MATLAB®, Scilab, etc.
Coupled field formulations, viz. magneto-structural, magneto-thermal,
field-circuit, are studied, solved and analyzed by developing efficient
algorithms. A number of Continuing Education Programs (CEPs) for industries
as well as Quality Improvement Programs (QIPs) for academic institutes
are often organized through which knowledge of recent trends and methods
in Computational Electromagnetics is spread over the community of electromagnetic
engineers.
