EE204 – 2020 Analog Circuits

The Analog Circuits course is specifically designed for Electrical Engineering students in their second year. No background coursework is required. We start with an intuitive understanding of Opamp as a black box followed by various circuit configurations using OPAMPs. We will go through a fundamental understanding of the p-n junction diode, BJT, and MOSFET. The course focuses on the usage of these devices along with R, L and C components to analyse complex analog circuits. Various amplifier configurations will be explored contrasting differences and similarities between BJTs and MOSFETs. We will review the frequency response followed by the feedback basics. After a good foundation in circuits, we will study various building blocks such as current mirrors, filters and oscillators.

Course contents:

Operational Amplifier as a black box, Opamp non-idealities, Opamp Circuits, Diode – PN junction, Diode Circuits, Bipolar transistor models, Bipolar transistor circuits, MOS – operation and model, CMOS technology, MOS circuits, Single-stage amplifiers, Cascode – Bipolar and MOS, Current mirrors, Differential Amplifier, Operational Amplifier analysis – Gain and CMRR, Frequency response, Feedback, Stability analysis, Oscillators, Analog Filters.
