Coding and Implementation
In my humble opinion, the Vision community needs a strong codebase for better understanding and adaptation of the different techniques in practice. This, after all is an applied field. I have listed below the different image processing and computer vision libraries I have come across. I personally find OpenCV to be the most "user friendly", a bare bones knowledge of C is sufficient. Here are the libraries, in no particular order.- OpenCV
- Gandalf
- RMagick This is the Ruby "interface" or bindings, as they call it, for ImageMagick. This should not really be here but is good enough for image processing tasks. Besides, it provides a good introduction to the power of scripting language in IP.
- Megawave
- Lush I dont know if this is being actively developed but I want to learn this just for the novelty. This also has an "interface" to OpenCV.
- Scilab An alternative to MATLAB. The image processing and vision "toolboxes" were not very well developed earlier but are now much better. There are two tool boxes, SIP and SIVP.
- Multivac This has a free C++ based level set implementation.
- Ltilib Somebody told me one needs to know C++ well to use this. When I began, I did not know C++, hence dropped it.
- VXL
- A Level Set toolbox for MATLAB
