Students' Reading Group
Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay

Some Thoughts:

Sainath Kurunde (EE4) says:
Hello everyone,
First of all I would like to thank people behind reading group.
I could attend very few of the reading group presentations, one of which was on "Emerging Memory Devices" by Shikhar Chouhan. I got a very clear idea of new memory elements and their working from the presentation as well as from the discussions.
After a month or two, I was asked about recent memory technologies in my INTEL interview and I could remember that interactive classroom and those discussions. Interview went better than I expected as I could answer those unexpected questions.
Surely, placements and interviews have a luck factor and interview questions can be on any topic depending upon the interviewer. Thus, a little extra knowledge can always make you stand out from others.
I request all of you to be a part of this Win-Win initiative.
Again, Thank you to all reading group contributors.

Naveen (A PhD. Student from EE) says:
Good quality research requires us to get deep and right to the roots of a problem. The entire process however narrows the vision of the researcher which can potentially lead to a failed research if one starts digging down at the wrong spot. While failures are necessary stepping stones for progress, one needs to minimize them and early recovery aids in fast progress of science. That is where group discussions and collaboration helps by enabling us to retain the broader view.
I am very happy with the initiative of the EE students reading group. I have witnessed some very good presentations and Q&A and I hope this activity continues with the same rigor and vigour in the future.

Mohit Chhabra (EE2, presenter) says:
Presenting at reading group has been a wonderful learning experience for me.The best way know what one does know is ask questions of what and why. The preparation before the presentation provided an oppurtunity to ask those questions. To be truthful, I am much more clear about the topic now than I was before I gave the talk.
On a different note,I would again like to thank Chayan and Ameer for their help and in preparing the final presentation and in honest feedback during the mocks. Learnt some useful Latex skills from them. Can definitely see myself using them as indispensable aspects of presentations I give in future.

Abhijit Datta(EE3,presenter) says:
Firstly, I would like to thank you all for giving me this opportunity to share my work with such a vibrant audience. I was thrilled to see the response and also the genuine questions asked during the session. For the preparation of the presentation, I had to do a bit of data searching and revisit some of the key concepts. This gave me a better perspective with regards to the work other people in the world are doing in my domain. This has led to my personal value addition. Also, some of the queries raised during the session were targeting a specific problem which has motivated me to look up and explore more. I could also evaluate myself as a speaker when the audience is not purely a technical one and vice versa as the audience was not only well informed technically but also was looking at the commercial aspects. I would say it was really an enchanting experience for me and I am looking forward towards more such opportunities in the future.

Shikhar Chouhan (EE4 , presenter) says:

First of all, thanks to organizers for providing me the opportunity to present & discuss our group work among various specialization. It was a wonderful experience & I realized how people from a different background can raise questions which are not easy to anticipate.
This is a very powerful initiative & must be carried forward with similar enthusiasm for our upcoming batches & years.

Sagar Sudhakara (EE1 , presenter) says:
Presenting my project in reading group gave me lot of confidence & got to know my loopholes. I could crack tensilica interview only because of the confidence which I gained by presenting my work in the reading group. I am highly grateful to Prof. Kumar Appaiah & Sagar Sharma to give me a platform where I can showcase my talent & get instant feedback.

Vineet Gokhale (EE1 , presenter) says:
It was a great pleasure delivering a department level talk on my research area. The session was pretty interactive, and some questions were quite intriguing. The talks are, in general, well organised. I like the concept of an audience feedback system where the all voices are heard in an anonymous manner.
The reading group presentation is a good reason for us, who are mostly confined to a lab or a research problem, to gather at a common place for exchange of technical ideas. The practice of inviting external speakers seems viable because of the relentless efforts by the organizers. This way the department folks can also get a broader picture of the research activities going on elsewhere, which are otherwise hard to be noticed by all.
