Projects at IIT Bombay

  • Technical Feasibility of TV White Space Operation in India (2015)
  • o Deployed the first TV White Space test-bed in seven villages of Palghar district in Maharashtra. Please find the details here .
    o Developed a prototype for UHF TV band operation.
    o Integrated the UHF TV band prototype with OpenPAWS, a TVWS database query system.
    o Currently working in the deployment of 25 villages in Palghar District, Maharashtra funded by TATA TRUSTS.
    o Developed a computation tool in MATLAB to estimate the available TV White Space in India.
    o Set up a test-bed network within IIT Bombay campus using TV White Space as backhaul.
    o Deployed the first TV White Space test-bed in India.

  • Cost Optimization Tool for Cellular Networks (2014-2015)

    o Analyzed a network trace captured in a laboratory Wi-Fi setting
    o Simulated the a wireless network with practical considerations to achieve results similar to the laboratory setting in ns3.

  • Comparison of TDMA and CSMA MAC performance in sub-GHz band

    o Studied the compilation and configuration of Openwrt - an embedded Linux OS.
    o Experimentally compared performance of CSMA and TDMA in 570-590 MHz band in the point-to-multipoint topology.

    o Implemented single-prcess, multi-process and multi-threaded servers using C sockets.

  • Analysis of TCP performance for different network parameters

    o Studied the performance of TCP for different value of RTT, queue size, error rate and bottleneck bandwidth
    o Studied different variants of TCP using ns3 simulations and live packet captures.

  • Building a Virtual Private Network

    o Created a Virtual Private Network setup with two islands of private IP address spaces transparently connected over another network using iptable rules and tun/tap devices.

  • Analyzing BGP Routing Tables
  • Course: (Advanced) Computer Networks, Guide: Prof. Mythili Vutukuru (September - November 2014)
    o Analyzed RouteView's BGP Routing Table to determine unique Autonomous Systems and IP prefixes in the Internet.
    o Used an algorithm from this paper for inferring customer-provider AS relationships.

  • A brief overview of TV White Space Technology around the World
  • M. Tech. Seminar, Guide: Prof. Abhay Karandikar (January - May 2013)
    o Reviewed the regulations for use of unutilized sub-GHz frequency band spectrum in different countries.
    o Examined the current sub-GHz band operation in India and discussed use cases of TV White Space operations in India.
    o Proposed the use of underutilized spectrum for secondary usage to provide broadband services in rural India.

    o This projects brings in importance of giving automatic drug/glucose to the patients in the case of mass natural disaster
    o Relaxes the dependency of Sister taking care of each and every patient in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
