Policies
Departmental Policies
The following policies govern academic life for students in the B.Tech, Dual Degree, and M.Tech programmes in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay. All policies are subject to the overarching rules set by the Institute Academic Council.
Course Registration
Students must register for courses within the prescribed time window each semester. Late registrations, course additions and drops are governed by the Academic Calendar. The DUGC must be consulted for any deviations from the prescribed credit load.
Academic Performance
Students must maintain a minimum CPI to remain in good academic standing. Those falling below the threshold are placed on academic probation and are advised to opt for reduced coursework. Summer courses may be available for students to catch up on failed or dropped courses.
Academic Integrity
Plagiarism, copying in examinations, and other forms of academic dishonesty are treated as serious offences. All submitted work must be original. The Institute disciplinary procedures apply to any violations.
Attendance
Students are expected to attend all lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions. Instructors may set minimum attendance requirements. Medical leave must be supported with documentation from the Institute Health Centre.
Grading Policy
Grades are awarded on an absolute or relative basis at the discretion of the instructor. The grading scheme follows the Institute policy (AA, AB, BB, BC, CC, CD, DD, FR, II, PP, NP). Grade disputes must be raised with the instructor within the prescribed deadline.
Leave Policy
Leave of absence during the semester must be approved by the DUGC and relevant faculty. Extended leave may affect programme completion timelines. Students are responsible for catching up on missed coursework.
