Solid State Devices
Engineers need to use physical objects to sense, compute and signal the natural physical world. These objects are solid-state devices. Major thrusts are nanoscale technology, design, and modeling of advanced devices.
Associated Research Labs
IIT Bombay Nanofab Facility (IITBNF)
A national center to compete globally in creating nanoscale technologies and devices in cleanrooms and design labs. Supports research in advanced semiconductor device fabrication and nanoscale technology development.
National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education (NCPRE)
A national center for research and education in photovoltaics and renewable energy. Conducts research on high-efficiency solar cells, grid-tied PV systems, and energy storage.
Fiber Laser Research Lab
Our lab aims to develop high-performance fiber lasers with customizable properties, such as wavelength tunability, power scalability, and broadband spectral output, to address a variety of real-world applications. The lab is part of the Photonics and Integrated Nonlinear Lasers (PhINLab) group at IIT Bombay. PhD and M.Tech positions are available for motivated students.
Photonics and Quantum Enabled Sensing Technology Laboratory (PQUEST)
The aim of the Photonics and Quantum Enabled Sensing Technology (PQUEST) Laboratory is to explore and push the boundaries of precision metrology and sensing using unprecedented opportunities presented by novel interdisciplinary research in fields like nano-photonics, classical and quantum information processing and computing, and life sciences. To this end, the lab develops practical quantum devices via design and experimentation, thus connecting quantum theory to engineering applications.
