Projects pursued in collaboration with the industry, in which Prof. Gadre has been the principal collaborator

  1. Implementation of an MPEG-II Advanced Audio Coder, supported by Tata Infotech.
  2. Research in Rate Control of MPEG Video, supported by PACE Technologies.
  3. PACE Technologies has also supported two further projects on Joint Source Channel Coding and on Digital Watermarking.
  4. Work on joint source channel coding, and on channel coding based on Turbo codes, LDPC codes sponsored by Patni Computers.
  5. Wavelet based multitone modulation partly supported by Central Research Laboratories, Bangalore.
Industrial Interaction and Projects done/being pursued with industrial support

  1. The Texas Instruments Digital Signal Processing Laboratory has been set up and developed in the Department of Electrical Engineering with the aid of digital signal processing hardware and software provided by Texas Instruments, India; with significant involvement by Prof V M Gadre. A further grant of Rs. 2 lakhs was awarded by Silicon Automation Systems, Bangalore in 1997, to enable setting up this laboratory and for pursuing further development of the laboratory.
  2. This laboratory has now blossomed into a full fledged facility for projects related to digital signal processing and has attracted further interaction in this field with a number of industries. Each of these projects supports a student, thus partially fulfilling the dream of unifying the goals of industrial interaction and supporting the education of graduate students.
  3. In the Academic Year 2020-2021, Texas Instruments India (TII) Ltd. has now signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay to support about six M. Tech. students every year, based on merit and qualification in their written test and interview, for the duration of their M. Tech. and for their M. Tech. project to be done in collaboration with Texas Instruments R&D groups. Prof. Vikram M. Gadre has orchestrated the finalization of this MoU from the side of IIT Bombay, in collaboration with IRCC, IIT Bombay and is leading the execution of this MoU on behalf of IIT Bombay.

  14. Coordinated the development of a complete web-based course on Signals and Systems, under the C-DEEP NPTEL initiative (Phase-I), which is now available on the C-DEEP web-page together with the recorded lectures in the subject - for engineering education initiatives.
  15. The Departmental Graduate Course EE 603 - Digital Signal Processing and its Applications, offered during the Autumn Semester of the Academic Year 2007-08, has been recorded under the Distance Education Facility at KReSIT, and a set of video lectures is being created out of these.
  16. The Departmental Graduate Course EE 678 - Wavelets, offered during the Spring Semester of the Academic Years 2007-08 and 2008-09, has been recorded under the Centre for Distance Engineering Education (CDEEP) Facility at KReSIT, and a set of video lectures is being created out of these.
  17. NPTEL Phase II - Created a video course on ‘Advanced Digital Signal Processing - Multirate Processing and Wavelets’ which has been included as a part of the national open resource made available under Phase II, National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) in the Discipline of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
  18. Worked with a team of Teaching Associates (Graduate and Undergraduate Students) to create a full fledged Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the topic of "Signals and Systems". This has been running on the MOOC Platform EdX and IITBombayX since 2015.
  19. Worked with a team of faculty from two institutes of Maharashtra, namely G H Raisoni College of Engineering (GHRCoE) and Pune Vidyarthi Griha College of Engineering and Technology (PVGCoET), their students and several IIT Bombay students to create and run an NPTEL Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the subject of Digital Signal Processing. This MOOC has been rolled out in January 2021. This can also be seen as a pedagogical inter-institutional experiment in collaborative MOOC creation across Institutes of Maharashtra. This is in line with the recommendation of the IIT Council, to have collaborative pedagogical endeavours between the IITs and nearby technical institutes of repute.

Projects pursued in collaboration with the industry, in which Prof. Gadre has been the principal collaborator

  1. Implementation of an MPEG-II Advanced Audio Coder, supported by Tata Infotech.
  2. Research in Rate Control of MPEG Video, supported by PACE Technologies.
  3. PACE Technologies has also supported two further projects on Joint Source Channel Coding and on Digital Watermarking.
  4. Work on joint source channel coding, and on channel coding based on Turbo codes, LDPC codes sponsored by Patni Computers.
  5. Wavelet based multitone modulation partly supported by Central Research Laboratories, Bangalore.
Industrial Interaction and Projects done/being pursued with industrial support

  1. The Texas Instruments Digital Signal Processing Laboratory has been set up and developed in the Department of Electrical Engineering with the aid of digital signal processing hardware and software provided by Texas Instruments, India; with significant involvement by Prof V M Gadre. A further grant of Rs. 2 lakhs was awarded by Silicon Automation Systems, Bangalore in 1997, to enable setting up this laboratory and for pursuing further development of the laboratory.
  2. This laboratory has now blossomed into a full fledged facility for projects related to digital signal processing and has attracted further interaction in this field with a number of industries. Each of these projects supports a student, thus partially fulfilling the dream of unifying the goals of industrial interaction and supporting the education of graduate students.
  3. In the Academic Year 2020-2021, Texas Instruments India (TII) Ltd. has now signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay to support about six M. Tech. students every year, based on merit and qualification in their written test and interview, for the duration of their M. Tech. and for their M. Tech. project to be done in collaboration with Texas Instruments R&D groups. Prof. Vikram M. Gadre has orchestrated the finalization of this MoU from the side of IIT Bombay, in collaboration with IRCC, IIT Bombay and is leading the execution of this MoU on behalf of IIT Bombay.

  13. A complete course entitled “Introduction to Digital Signal Processing and Wavelets” in the Autumn Semester of 2005.
  14. Coordinated the development of a complete web-based course on Signals and Systems, under the C-DEEP NPTEL initiative (Phase-I), which is now available on the C-DEEP web-page together with the recorded lectures in the subject - for engineering education initiatives.
  15. The Departmental Graduate Course EE 603 - Digital Signal Processing and its Applications, offered during the Autumn Semester of the Academic Year 2007-08, has been recorded under the Distance Education Facility at KReSIT, and a set of video lectures is being created out of these.
  16. The Departmental Graduate Course EE 678 - Wavelets, offered during the Spring Semester of the Academic Years 2007-08 and 2008-09, has been recorded under the Centre for Distance Engineering Education (CDEEP) Facility at KReSIT, and a set of video lectures is being created out of these.
  17. NPTEL Phase II - Created a video course on ‘Advanced Digital Signal Processing - Multirate Processing and Wavelets’ which has been included as a part of the national open resource made available under Phase II, National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) in the Discipline of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
  18. Worked with a team of Teaching Associates (Graduate and Undergraduate Students) to create a full fledged Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the topic of "Signals and Systems". This has been running on the MOOC Platform EdX and IITBombayX since 2015.
  19. Worked with a team of faculty from two institutes of Maharashtra, namely G H Raisoni College of Engineering (GHRCoE) and Pune Vidyarthi Griha College of Engineering and Technology (PVGCoET), their students and several IIT Bombay students to create and run an NPTEL Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the subject of Digital Signal Processing. This MOOC has been rolled out in January 2021. This can also be seen as a pedagogical inter-institutional experiment in collaborative MOOC creation across Institutes of Maharashtra. This is in line with the recommendation of the IIT Council, to have collaborative pedagogical endeavours between the IITs and nearby technical institutes of repute.
