Home » Life @ IIT Bombay
Mumbai provides a cosmopolitan and metropolitan lifestyle, being the financial capital of India, with its experience of diverse cultures, cuisines, and industries. Although IITB aspires to give competitive campus accommodation and amenities to its faculty members, the pace of construction has lagged its human resource expansion. However, IITB does provide generous support for off-campus housing nearby, and other accommodation on campus. Chances of getting a better accommodation on campus improve with the number of years spent at IITB.
The campus is well-equipped with numerous sports facilities and various interest clubs. More about IIT Bombay campus life can be found here and here. There is one day care, one kindergarten school, and two schools (including one of the best Kendriya Vidyalayas/Central Schools in the country affiliated to CBSE) with classes 1 to 12 inside the campus. There are numerous good private schools also near the campus. The campus is quite self-sufficient with its own post-office, market area, banks, ATMs, shops, salons, and numerous eateries. The campus also has a well-equipped library, gymkhana (sports and recreation centre), swimming pool, staff club, and movie club. All faculty residences have free campus telephone (intercom) and broadband internet access. Eating joints in the institute include the department canteens, a campus restaurant, a staff canteen, and numerous stalls. Delivery of app-based purchases from e-commerce and food-order sites is very prompt in the campus. The campus is also well-connected by public transportation, auto-rickshaws, and cabs. The most prominent attraction of the campus is its substantial green cover, a lake, a hill, and a semi-wild ecology, that inspire a healthy and active lifestyle. The campus shares its boundary with the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Powai Lake that attract exotic birds and animals. The campus is usually a few degrees cooler with cleaner air and water than the rest of the metropolis. Numerous cultural and social events are also hosted on campus, in addition to the city.
