Some aspiring scientists who have finished a PhD program or are close to finishing it from a reputable university, may want to spend some time to gain more experience in research, academic publishing, and grant writing. For such people, a postdoctoral stint of a few years gives a protected time without taking on the responsibilities of being a faculty member (such as teaching and administrative work). Postdoctoral candidates are encouraged to contact potential faculty mentors and shape their project proposals. Opportunities for funding include Institute Post-doctoral Fellowship (IPDF) and specific projects under various faculty members that may advertise funding for postdocs from time to time.
Requirements
• Candidates should find potential mentors (regular faculty) in the department.
• Mentors and candidates will inform the FSC convenor of their desire to work together.
• Mentor will arrange for a seminar for the candidate, which will be open to all, and must be attended by at least two other faculty members working in the area.
• Mentors will send a consolidated email to the FSC convenor with the following attachments: candidate’s CV, consolidated feedback of other faculty members from the FSC interface, candidate’s research plan (2-3 pages), and mentor’s own letter of recommendation for the candidate and his/her research plan.
