Post-Doc

Post-Doc

Some aspiring scientists who have finished a PhD program or are close to finishing it from a reputable university, may want to spend some time to gain more experience in research, academic publishing, and grant writing. For such people, a postdoctoral stint of a few years gives a protected time without taking on the responsibilities of being a faculty member (such as teaching and administrative work). Postdoctoral candidates are encouraged to contact potential faculty mentors and shape their project proposals. Opportunities for funding include Institute Post-doctoral Fellowship (IPDF) and specific projects under various faculty members that may advertise funding for postdocs from time to time.

Requirements

• Candidates should find potential mentors (regular faculty) in the department. • Mentors and candidates will inform the FSC convenor of their desire to work together. • Mentor will arrange for a seminar for the candidate, which will be open to all, and must be attended by at least two other faculty members working in the area. • Mentors will send a consolidated email to the FSC convenor with the following attachments: candidate’s CV, consolidated feedback of other faculty members from the FSC interface, candidate’s research plan (2-3 pages), and mentor’s own letter of recommendation for the candidate and his/her research plan.

Remuneration

• Fresh PhD with no post-PhD experience       Rs. 65,000/- p.m.

• PhD + 1 year of post-PhD experience       Rs. 68,000/-p.m

• PhD + 2 years of post-PhD experience       Rs. 71,000/-p.m.

• Non-lapsable contingency grant       Rs. 15,000/year

How To Apply

Send an email to fsc_convenor@ee.iitb.ac.in with the following:

  • Detailed CV (which needs to include publications, referee information and your academic background: graduation onwards.)
  • Research statement
  • Two or three of your best papers
  • Identify one or more faculty members within the EE department in your area. (Item 4 is optional: not compulsory.)
