Anupama Kowli

Dr. Anupama Kowli is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay. She is an established researcher in the domain of power systems operation and control, demand side management, electricity markets and sustainable & smart buildings. She has won several awards for her work in demand response and smart buildings. Anupama is currently managing two live testbeds on IITB campus and also experimenting on the solar house on campus. She has worked with TCS, GERMI, IPCL and Murata Engineering and is currently working with Enphase Energy, SustLabs, and FlockEnergy. Her industry projects span the domains of distribution system operations, residential energy management, building energy optimization, and energy informatics from smart meter data.

Qualifications

• B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Mumbai University (V.J.T.I.), 2006
• M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2009
• Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2013

Research Interests

• Power system planning, operations and control
• Electricity markets and economics of electric power grids
• Policy and regulation for electric power grids
• Grid integration of renewable generation and distributed storage
• Demand-side management, demand response and flexible loads
• Smart grids and its enabling technologies and mechanisms

Work Experience

• Intern at at Kema, Inc.
• Intern in the Advanced Power and Energy Systems group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
